Artist Statement

My figurative work explores the inner terrain of character through a lens of subconscious excavation. I aim to magnify that which cannot be seen on the surface while conveying, through mystery and spaciousness, the poignant events that inevitably shape our life experience and remain intangible. Using mixed media, I create ghostly figures and transparent layers that imply hidden complexities and saturated depth. I explore the contrast between the spiritual and the earthly, the subconscious and social conformity. I am constantly intrigued by matters of the psyche, dreams, spiritual evolution, and what we are unable to know with our senses, about ourselves and the universal collective. I aim to invoke curiosity and respect for the obscure.

About Me

Amanda began her artistic trajectory at age five, winning illustration awards in elementary school. She rediscovered visual art in 2016 after putting it on the shelf for decades and working in other creative arenas. Most recently studying life drawing, she has fueled a reverence for rendering the human figure and face. She loves the clothing and interiors of past eras and is inspired by all things historical and mysterious. A deep curiosity keeps her exploring the paths of the subconscious and esoteric, which convey in her work. Some of her favorite things include forests, reading, cats, and interior design.
